Prayer Week

From Sunday 1 March we’re setting aside a week as a church to pray together - because we believe that when we listen to God and pray together, it shapes us and it shapes our city. Prayer changes everything.

Make room

Prayer week is about more than just pausing our schedules. It’s about choosing to make room: in our own lives - to encounter God in a fresh way; in our church - to grow deeper in dependence on Him; in our city - to see His Kingdom come and every person discover the love of their Father.

Let’s step into this together and make room for what only God can do.

Get involved

At the heart of the week is something beautifully simple: We’re inviting you to join a daisy-chain of Psalm reading and prayer.

Here’s how it works:

  • Book a one-hour slot in the prayer room.

  • Come in, read from where the last person finished.

  • Pray however feels natural - silently, aloud, with Scripture, with your own words.

  • Write any prayers, Scriptures or encouragements you sense God giving on the prayer wall so the next person sees them.

It doesn’t matter how much you read or how well you pray - just come as you are and pick up the chain.

Even one hour matters - and makes you part of what God is doing here.

The Prayer Room: How it works

1

Find a time you’d like to pray and book a time slot here.

2

Get the access instructions in an email the day before your slot.

3

Turn up and pray using the helpful resources in the prayer room.

Why and how do we pray?

This isn’t about ticking a box or doing more church stuff.

We pray because Jesus encouraged us throughout scripture to talk to him in our day to day.

It changes situations; our God is so powerful that we can change the course of our lives through our prayers.

Top tips

  • Outside of the lunchtime prayer slots you need to book to attend the prayer room. Simply click here and choose a slot that works for you.

You can book more than one slot and book anonymously if you would prefer.

If you have any problems please email prayer@stnicholasbristol.org

  • We will send you an email the day before your booking with all the details for accessing the prayer room, so don’t forget to check your inbox or your junk mail as you will need the door codes to get in.

  • If you’re a bit newer to prayer or feel a bit daunted by the idea of praying for an hour you can still get involved.

The prayer room is full of resources and activities to help you get praying, there’s more than enough to fill your time, (we often find people have to book again because there’s so much to do). It is really accessible for everyone, whether this is your first time praying or you pray daily. Go for it!

  • Need help with how to use your prayer slot time? We have created a resource to guide you in your prayers during prayer week.

You will find a number of other resources in the Prayer Room for you use.

  • Seeing communities coming together to pray is great. The best way to gather together in the prayer room is with those you know.

The Prayer Room is completely secure, with regularly updated entry codes and the access route is covered by CCTV. We do however not recommend coming alone to a nighttime slot but rather booking with a few friends.

We would encourage you not to book open prayer slots as others will be able to book alongside you. We also have anonymous booking options, so only you, and the staff team can see when you’ve booked on if you would prefer.

  • Where two or three are gathered together in prayer it makes a huge impact, so you can always bring a friend along. We would recommend booking in pairs or threes for a night time slot.

  • We love worship here at St Nicks, but as we have neighbours surrounding our prayer room we ask that louder music can only be done between 8am–9pm. Please be mindful and respectful of noise levels outside of these hours.
